Diaspora: "The Walls" by Sergio Assad

Received the first draft of Sergio Assad’s “The Walls”, co-commissioned by me (with help from my friends at Augustine) and Thomas Offermann from Germany.

Sergio and I conferred quite a bit on the theme and scope of the piece, and his wife Angela was the one who actually came up with the wonderful idea of basing it on the four most historic barriers built to keep people apart: The Great Wall of China, Hadrian’s Wall, The Berlin Wall, and the West Bank Wall. And the final movement, “No More Walls,” features Mexican themes; a rather thinly veiled commentary on current events.

Looking forward to sharing this piece.
